I just came across this gem of a podcast on Blues music and I’m enjoying the content which I find, not only interesting and entertaining from a purely musical listening standpoint, but also educational from a historical and cultural context. Hosted by Sleepy Boy Hawkins, a self-confessed Blues music fanatic and radio show DJ (whose collection comes from CDs, LPs, 45s, and 78s), this podcast has some insightful interviews and personal accounts of Blues artists and musicians weaved within the history and music of the Blues (particularly the 10/5/16 podcast). It also features musical gems you may not have heard before. The shows are uploaded in 2 one-hour segments and have different themes. If you’d like to deepen your appreciation of the Blues and if you’ve got the time, give Blues Unlimited a listen.
It’s not everyday you get to hear your name mentioned in a song. The lovely and talented singer-songwriter and uke-slinger from Boston, MA Amy Kucharik does just that for yours truly in a groovy song called Dance Crush Blues! This new version released in 2013 is a slower, bluesy version of the uptempo acoustic guitar version released in 2011. In this song, Amy sings about the “blues” one gets when they have that awesome connection with someone on the dance floor…and when they’re not. Something we can all relate to. It’s quite a fun song to dance and listen to. I honestly admit that I smile whenever I hear Amy give her “shout outs.” Give it a listen to find out what I mean and download her music. It’s that good!
